These are the 8 fitness rules Victoria's Secret Angels swear by

In between pictures of avocado toast, your Instagram feed is likely littered with a slew of lithe, long-legged gazelles, otherwise known as models.

Though they are undoubtedly filtered and retouched to perfection, there are certain things that separate them from us genetically inferior folk - namely, their enviable bone structure, killer abs and perfect faces. Now, while the majority of us can never hope to look that good perched on top of a rock, it's evident that the likes of Miranda Kerr and Gigi Hadid must do something to maintain their goddess like glow.

Luckily for us, Victoria's Secret Angel and bona fide heartthrob, Romee Strijd recently opened up about her fitness regime, and provided us with tips that can easily be incorporated into every routine. She discussed how she stays motivated whilst at the gym, what healthy but delicious snacks she relies on and which VS Angel is the best workout buddy...

1. Don't neglect your fitness regime while travelling

While you should get plenty of R&R on holiday, if you want to score a bod as great as Romee's you can't wholly neglect working out. "Lately I’ve been working out in hotels, because I’ve been traveling a lot," she told Elle. "It's actually fun to sometimes be by yourself, put your headphones on, make a little workout schedule and just do it."

2. Hit the gym with your partner for extra motivation

Believe it or not, even high-profile models can feel unmotivated from time to time. Romee's solution? Hitting the squat rack with her significant other. "My boyfriend and I workout together," she disclosed. "We never really do the same training, but we go to the gym together and then we say, "Okay, one hour from now we’re leaving." So, it helps. We get competitive. We always do a planking challenge. I think it’s really motivating [to work out with your S.O], because whenever I don’t feel like it, he’s like, "Oh, come on. Let’s do it! Let’s get it over with!'"

3. Be open to trying fitness trends

While some fitness trends can be gimmicky, Romee keeps an open mind to them and is particularly fond of infrared saunas and jade rollers. "I’ve tried the infrared sauna and I actually really like it," the 22-year-old stated. "You have all these different coloured lights and every colour does something different. [I also use] the jade roller. I put it in my freezer, so it’s extra cold. And, I use it in the morning when I’m super tired. I feel like it takes the puffiness out of the eyes after flying or after a short night."

4. Create a regular workout schedule

Romee works out four to five times a week. On her days off she likes to hit the gym in the morning and then take a shower to get ready for the day. When she's working, she tends to go straight from work, before dinner.

5. Remember, you don't need fancy gym equipment

"For abs, I like a little circuit on the mat," the model revealed. "With every [exercise], you should always be using your abs—even when you do squats. Try to feel them [with every movement]. I’ve been doing everything myself with ankle weights and resistance bands, and I bring my jump rope when I travel. You can even do it in a hotel room if you have a mat." So no excuses, folks.

6. Make working out a social occasion

Romee often works out with her fellow Victoria's Secret Angels to make everything more bearable. "[The models and I] always try to work out together and then plan a nice brunch or lunch after. It’s really motivating. Jasmine [Tookes] is the most hardcore. She's strong. She can do a lot of weights," she stated.

7. You can start anywhere

Romee advises against jumping into a super-strict workout regimen. "Just start somewhere," she urged. "Say to yourself that you only have 15 minutes or something and then it comes from there. I’m not always motivated, but you just have to go do it because afterwards you feel so great and you enjoy the day more because you’ve done it."

8. Don't shy away from snacking

"Because I travel so much and work out so much I have to make sure I eat enough," the model explained. "For me, it always helps to bring snacks on the way. So, I bring my favorite dark chocolate bar from Hu Kitchen. Then, I eat a lot of fruit and RXbars. Just make sure you have enough with you."

Well, there you have it. While it won't hurt to incorporate some of these tips into our fitness routines, don't expect to come out and score a modelling contract afterwards.
