60-year-old Madonna stuns at the Billboard Music Awards with her impossibly toned legs
The Queen of Pop unveiled her new persona, Madame X, at the Billboard Music Awards last night, and it was quite the spectacle to behold. It was her first live performance - alongside Columbian singer Maluma - of Medellin, from her forthcoming album. And in true Madonna fashion, she took the opportunity to champion a new aesthetic.
As well as computer-generated images of herself from the music video of the first track of her latest album, she also debuted a new look, which can be summed up as dominatrix-cum-pirate-chic. I mean, she had a riding crop, fishnet stockings, gloves and an eye patch.
But the most noticeable thing were her legs. Aged 60, Madonna has the kind of lean, impossibly toned legs that we can only dream of.
Doing the #MedellinChaChaChaChallenge, which she announced on Twitter earlier this week, her garter and fishnet-clad limbs looked as sculpted as ever.
I mean, just take a gander...
And she certainly works hard for them. "Madonna does five to six workouts weekly that vary on a daily basis and focus on a variety of methods and training modalities," Craig Smith - Madonna's trainer and the creative director of her Hard Candy Fitness clubs - told Glamour.
"Her workouts include dance, resistance training, interval training, yoga, barre workouts, Pilates, aerobics, athletic conditioning, and circuit training," he continued, detailing that her dance cardio workouts involve hour-long sessions of aerobic, high energy dance.
He also touched on her diet, saying "Madonna's go-to healthy meal varies. She enjoys everything from an organic cold-pressed juice to a hearty salad and full nutritious meal that includes an organic protein, carbohydrate, and fruits and veggies."
The singer also opened to Billboard's Keith Caulfield about preparing for her performance, and the process behind creating Madame X. "I had no idea how many songs I was gonna end up with," she told Caulfield while backstage at Wednesday's Billboard Music Awards.
"The record was born in Lisbon…originally, I’d worked with a lot of Portuguese musicians, and sang several songs in Portuguese, and then it kind of expanded to different countries, to Brazil, to Colombia, and then interspersed working with Mirwais, the French producer, so the song kind of, it’s really a global album."
She also revealed that Madame X was a name that was given to her when she was 19-year-old, and had just moved to New York City;
"A woman who I looked up to and admired [Martha Graham] gave me that name because she said she couldn’t recognize all my different personas because I kept changing the way I looked. That was in the beginning of my career when I didn’t think about who I should be or what I should be. I was experimenting. And so I felt like I had come full circle and gave the record that name, cause I’m in the same frame of mind."
