Avicii's secret girlfriend takes to Instagram to pen heartbreaking letter for the late DJ

Last week, the world was shocked to learn of the untimely passing of DJ Tim Bergling, better known by his stage name Avicii, who died by suicide while on holiday with friends in Oman. He was only 28 years old at the time of his death, and those close to him - as well as many of his fans - were devastated by the news.

"Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions. An over-achieving perfectionist who travelled and worked hard at a pace that led to extreme stress," his family said in an emotional statement.

Now, eight days later, the DJ's little-known-about girlfriend, Tereza Kacerová, has taken to Instagram in order to share pictures of herself with Bergling, and to write him a letter expressing her feelings over his loss.

"Dear Tim," she began.

"I’ve spent the last days waiting to wake up, waiting for someone to tell me that this is some sick joke, some awful mistake. I think it’s finally settling on me now that I will truly never get to see you again.

"The first couple of days I harassed your friends (are they SURE IT'S REAL?!, demanding proof, WHERE ARE YOU NOW?!) and googled articles to read that they had it all wrong. Every time I saw 'RIP' and 'Avicii' together in one sentence or an end date to your life, I felt shock all over again.

"When I saw they had changed your bio on Wikipedia from 'is' to 'was', I sobbed. I'd stare at it for minutes at a time, trying to decipher why it said that you died on April 20, 2018. It didn't make any sense. You are too young and wonderful and I love you too much for you to have that written by your name."

Kacerová went on to detail all the plans she had with the musician: the trips they would take to Sweden and South America, the family they would build with her son, Luka, and - tragically - the names she had picked out for a baby girl if the couple were to have a daughter.

She recalls the first few dates the couple had, noting that there were many less-than-perfect moments, but implying that she always knew they would end up together.

"But it DID go somewhere," she wrote. "We shot to the stars. We were so happy together. And now, now I just want to jump into a pool of cold water and be torn out of this nightmare."

In the second part of the note, Kacerová explains why she never went public with her relationship to Bergling.

"I was always very set on keeping our relationship private because I wanted it to be OURS and ours only and wanted no part in this madness. But I thought, if I'm going to share this with the world, it will be when I'm pregnant with our child. Ohhh how that plan went awry."

She finished up the note by saying:

"I read that, before he died, Thomas Edison came out of a coma, looked upwards and said, 'it is very beautiful up there'. I take comfort in that. REST IN PEACE, TIM. Try to come back to Earth soon so that you and Luka can play together again."

Our thoughts are with Tereza and Luka at this difficult time, and with anyone else who has been affected by the loss of Tim Bergling.
