A ‘bone-chilling’ new horror series from the creators of Stranger Things has been forcing viewers to question their own relationships - and their partner’s loyalty.
If you’re looking for something to binge-watch this weekend, this new show could be the one for you.
New Netflix horror from the Duffer Brothers
This new show was created by the brilliant minds behind Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers, and it has just been released worldwide.
A psychological horror thriller that is no stranger to a scare or two, it seems set to become a fast global hit, much like Stranger Things was.
It’s called Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen, and - as the title suggests - it doesn’t look good for the protagonists.
It stars Camila Morrone as Rachel, who is set to marry her fiancé at his holiday home, before things turn… stranger.
According to the showrunner Haley Z. Boston, the film draws from horror classics like Carrie and Rosemary’s Baby, with the starting question: “What's the horror version of a woman becoming a wife?”
Early reports are that it is unnerving, deliberately shot to make the viewer feel uncomfortable and anxious, as well as employing a near constant state of dread.
Then, there’s the psychological element that has people questioning their own relationships and whether they can trust their own partner.
The underlying question of trust at the center of the show
Boston explained: “We wanted you as the audience to feel the paranoia and the fear that Rachel is feeling,
“Even when she's not in the scene, we were always thinking about constructing the show in terms of her discomfort.
“It really represents how it feels to walk into a house for the first time and meet your significant other's family.
“There's all this lore that you are not aware of and you're suddenly stepping into it.”
She added: “Rachel's superstitious.
“So there is a bit of this groundwork of someone who is aware that there is maybe something cosmic going on.
“The show is about soulmates and ‘how do you know if someone's your soulmate?’ What is a soulmate? And it comes up, whether that's fate or whether it's something that you create.
“So I'm just gonna leave that there and you'll have to watch it to find out."
Fans seem to be getting the message, as one wrote: “Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen is an eerie psychological horror from [Netflix].
“Creepy and paranoid, it's the type of atmospheric show that really gets under your skin.”
Another said: “Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen was spooky & bone-chilling, but the whole show was also an excessive roundabout way of saying it’s human to have doubts about making lifelong commitments.”
Hey, why not sit down with your significant other to watch it?
You might never feel the same way about them again afterwards.
