Paris Hilton has spoken unreservedly about how a past scandal affected her personal life, including her relationships and views on intimacy.

Hilton, who is the great-granddaughter of Conrad Hilton, the founder of Hilton Hotels, rose to fame in the early 2000s alongside Nicole Richie on the reality show The Simple Life, quickly becoming one of the most recognizable figures of the era.

However, in 2004, her life took a difficult turn when a private video involving her and former boyfriend Rick Salomon was released without her consent, sparking scrutiny from both the media and public.

The tape, titled 1 Night in Paris, thrust her into a global controversy. Hilton later said she had been “out of it” when it was filmed.

While Salomon sued her over that particular claim, she filed a countersuit over the release of the video, with reports stating she received around $400,000 in damages.

Reflecting on that period during an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast in 2025, Hilton admitted the experience had a lasting impact on her personal life. Speaking to host Alex Cooper, she said: “I played into the character,” referring to the party-girl image she projected in the early 2000s.

Privately, though, she said she struggled. “It just made me scared about anything that had to do with sex. Like after that I was so closed off,” she explained. “I didn't want to hook up with anyone because I was just nervous.”

She added that even when dating, she held back: “Like I would date people, but I would only kiss them because I would just be nervous to do anything else.”

Despite being widely viewed as a “sex symbol” at the time, Hilton said her reality was very different. She revealed she was even given a nickname, “Miss Blue Baller”, because of how she behaved in relationships compared to public assumptions.

“That's what people would call me because I wouldn't do anything but then in the public people assumed something else,” she said.

Fans responded with support, with many reflecting on how female celebrities were treated during that era.

One person commented: “I hate the way female celebrities were treated by the media in the 2000s. So happy to see Paris thriving.” Another added, “I saw Paris’ documentary a few years ago and my perception about her changed completely… She is not only a very beautiful woman, but she is smart, funny, kind and very inspiring.”

Since then, Hilton has moved forward in her personal life. She is now married to entrepreneur Carter Reum, whom she reconnected with in 2019 after years of friendship. The couple married in 2021 and have since welcomed two children via surrogate.

Speaking about motherhood, Hilton said: “It's the best thing ever. My babies are my world, my life.”

She added: “I get to take them all around the world with me on my adventures… So it makes me feel, really, just like a proud, cool mom.”
