10 celebrities share the anti-ageing secrets they swear by
We all know the golden rules we should be following to keep our skin looking young, and to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Wearing sunscreen, moisturising, drinking water and moisturising again – sounds easy enough, right?
But still, there are plenty of mistakes you could be making, and so sometimes it's good to have an example to follow. And who better to learn from than our favourite celebrities, whose faces we've been inspecting over the years thanks to their up-close screen presence. These celebrities all have their own secret solutions for keeping their skin looking young and no, none of them are Botox (that they've admitted to anyway).
1. Jennifer Lopez
J.Lo has sworn that it's all down to the fact that she doesn't drink alcohol, telling InStyle, "I think that ruins your skin. Of course, during celebratory toasts, everybody's like, 'You can't toast with water!' So I'll toast with alcohol and just take a sip."
2. Cindy Crawford
"The secret is that there's no secret," she told Violet Grey recently. "Do all the stuff we know: Don't smoke, get enough sleep, drink plenty of water, find what makes you happy." She says it pays to start taking care of your skin early, even though you won't see any visible changes. "It's when you're my age that you start seeing the payoff," the 52-year-old said.
3. Victoria Beckham
For Posh Spice, variety is key: "I have a few different cleansers because I think it’s important to change up what you use so your skin doesn’t get too used to it," she told Into The Gloss.
4. Kate Hudson
The 38-year-old revealed her secret weapons are electro under-eye patches – she posted a picture on Snapchat of her stuck in traffic, driving with the pads on with wires tucked behind her ears.
5. Jessica Alba
"My mother taught me to always wear sunscreen, and to treat my beauty products as an investment," the mother-of-three told InStyle. "She would cheap out on her clothes before she would ever skimp on her skincare or makeup. She'd say, 'Listen, this is your face. It's all you've got.'"
6. Chrissy Teigen
The soon to be mother-of-two swears by retinol, the ingredient professionals rave about. She says her aesthetician makes a retinol serum that she uses frequently. "It smooths out fine lines. Every time I use it, I get compliments on my skin the next morning," she told InStyle.
7. Penelope Cruz
Penelope follows her own mother's advice "to eat healthy and get a solid amount of rest. I remember her sounding like a broken record telling us to eat our veggies and go to sleep," she told InStyle. "She annoyed me, but now, as a mother, I hear myself saying the same things."
8. Alicia Keys
The singer who famously vowed to ditch makeup still has a very meticulous skincare regime. Her aesthetician puts a jade roller on ice and rolls it over her skin to tighten it and bring blood to the surface. She also says a cooling cucumber pulp and a variety of oils help.
9. Halle Berry
Halle told InStyle she sprays her face with rosewater before doing her makeup to get a dewy look. "No matter what age you are, you always look a little better when your skin is a little dewy, not too powdery. I went through phases where all I wanted to do was be matte and powdered up, but then I found it wasn't the best look for me," she says.
10. Salma Hayek
Salma's secret is simple: "I've never gone to bed without washing my face. Never in my life," she told InStyle. "Even if I'm sick, tired—heck, even if I was drunk! I might forget to take off the dress, the shoes, and the jewellery, but not the makeup. It's second nature."
Even if you do follow each of these remedies, remember that everyone's different, and that you should listen to your skin to see what it likes best.
