14 times celebrities got real about the size of their boobs
While many girls wish for big boobs when they're younger, having large "assets" comes with burdens of their own. As the old adage goes: you always want what you can't have. But while we've all had insecurities about our breasts – especially once they start making themselves known during puberty – we eventually come to love them in all of their iterations.
Last week, Reese Witherspoon revealed she was a "late developer", saying that at age 14 she was "so embarrassed" that she was the only one out of all the girls who hadn't yet developed boobs. The 42-year-old isn't the only celeb to have candidly spoken about her breasts, however. Read on for 14 other times that celebrities have opened up about them.
1. Amanda Seyfried
"I saw a picture of them a couple of days ago from when I was 19, and my boobs were way bigger. They were a D, and now they're a small C, because I lost weight," Amanda told Allure magazine. "There was something so beautiful about the size of them. When I look back, I'm like, 'Why did I always give myself such a hard time?' Nobody gave me sh*t about it except me."
2. Gigi Hadid
"My boobs are small at the moment. They get really big at that time of the month," Gigi said candidly in a video for Vogue magazine.
3. Kim Kardashian
"Every night I would sit in the bath and cry, I prayed my boobs would stop growing," Kim revealed to Elle. "[My dad] told me I had a body not many girls have, that later it would lead to attention from men, but that the most important thing was that I was a wonderful girl and I had to understand my self-worth."
4. Lea Michele
"These babies are great," Lea told Marie Claire. "They are my prizewinners."
5. Ariel Winter
"I remember being in my sister's wedding and being so flat and thinking, I just wish I would grow boobs!' and then overnight I did," Ariel told Glamour. "But then they kept growing and growing and growing and it didn't seem like they were going to stop... I was 15 years old with [size] F [breasts]. It's like, How do you navigate that?'" Ariel got a breast reduction in 2015 because of breast-related pain and says she feels much better off. "I can't even really put it into words about how amazing it feels to really feel right."
6. Scarlett Johansson
"It was all fine and dandy when I was standing in the mirror, and I was like, 'This looks so damn good.' And then I saw a couple of red carpet photos from the side, and 'Hello, there's the breast, right there.'"
7. Jennifer Lawrence
"I just went to the doctor today. I got a chest X-ray of my lungs and discovered that my breasts are uneven," Jennifer said on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
8. Mila Kunis
"They're amazing!" she told Marie Claire about her pregnancy boobs. "They've tripled in size. I was a 34A. Now I'm a 36C. I'm so excited! I'm telling everyone I know, 'Go ahead, touch them.'"
9. Emma Roberts
"'Sexy' when I was younger always meant boobs, and I've never had boobs in my life, so I always felt that sexy was out of the question for me," Emma explained to Seventeen. "I used to really want to be that kind of voluptuous girl, and I've just kind of embraced that I'm not."
10. Katy Perry
"I lay on my back one night and looked down at my feet, and I prayed to God, will you please let me have boobs so big that I can't see my feet when I'm lying down? I had no clue they would fall into my armpits eventually," Katy told GQ.
11. Kate Upton
"I wish I had smaller boobs every day of my life, as I would love to wear spaghetti [strap] tops braless, or go for the smallest bikini design," she told The Sun. "But the grass is always greener, as they say!"
12. Sofia Vergara
"I know [my breasts] have opened doors for me, let's be real. But I so hate when I see Gisele and she is wearing a tiny little tank top with no bra, like, 'Oh, I just threw this on, I look so cute.' If I wore that I would look like I was pregnant, or a fat stripper," Sofia quipped to Lucky.
13. Ariana Grande
"I was like 12 and all the other girls in my grade had huge boobs already — and I was puny," Ariana told Twist. "I'm tiny still to this day — I'm a 32A. I'm okay with it now and I've learned to love my body, but at the time I was like, 'Oh my gosh! I must have this figure. So, I went out with my mom and was like, 'Mommy, I need this bra.' It was the most padded Victoria's Secret bra I've ever seen in my entire life — I could have used it as a mattress! I bought it and wore it to school the next day. All my girlfriends were like, 'Ariana what are you doing? Take your stupid bra off right now.' But now I don't wear anything like that. I've grown into my body, and I'm okay with it."
14. Pamela Anderson
“I haven’t reinvented myself," she told Marie Claire. "I’ve always been authentic except for the boobs.”
Real, fake, big or small – these celebs all came to love their pair despite any insecurities they may have experienced in the past.
