Kim Kardashian forced to apologise for using slur after people couldn't guess her Halloween costume

Whether she's "breaking the internet" or being accused of cultural appropriation, Kim Kardashian certainly knows how to cause a stir.

The reality television star has been forced to issue many an apology since she first started dominating our social media feeds back in the early aughts - and her verbal incontinence of the "sorry" variety doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon - well, not until people start guessing her Halloween costume correctly, goddammit.

Kim Kardashian has been forced to apologise for using the word "retarded" in an Instagram Story, after a number of fans called her out on social media for being insensitive.

TMZ reports that Kim was showing off her Halloween costume - she and Jonathan Cheban came dressed as Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee, in their iconic 1999 VMAs outfit - when she asked a fellow guest at the party to guess who she was. When the individual couldn't figure it out, Kim responded by saying they were "too f*cking young", before using the r-word.

The 38-year-old allegedly said, "Nobody knows who I am... retarded!"

Needless to say, the slur did not go down well on social media.

"Why is it still acceptable that @KimKardashian uses this kind of disrespectful rhetoric in 2018? Really? 'retarded'," one social media user wrote, while another corroborated "That was a really unnecessary use of the word retarded. I think we should all know & do better by now. It breaks my heart and angers my soul when I hear that word thrown around, knowing the pain that it carries."

"Scrolling through insta stories when @KimKardashian thinks it’s okay to say “retarded”. Ugh," a third added.

And yes: "Idk how I got to Kim Kardashian’s Instagram stories but her use of the word retarded is about to offend absolutely everyone."

Kim has since deleted the Story from her Instagram, and apologised in a statement to US Weekly, saying:

"I want to apologise for what I said in a recent video post that is inappropriate and insensitive to the special needs community. I try to learn from my mistakes and this is one of those times. Please know that my intention is always pure, and in this case, it was a mistake. I'm sorry."

This isn't the first time that a Kardashian family member has used the word to insult someone, however. Khloé Kardashian also had to apologise for using the term to describe her sister, Kourtney Kardashian, when she couldn't figure out how to sync her smartphones.

"Ugh I hate that word! Why did I even say that?” Khloé later tweeted in response to a fan who had called her out over the slur. "You are a million percent right and I actually greatly dislike when people use that word! I will do better! I am sorry! much love today."

Will the Kardashian family ever learn from their mistakes?
