Male French author claims women over 50 are 'too old' to love

In the latest instance of men sticking their foot in it - and perpetuating the patriarchy's agenda to boot - French author, Yan Moix, has asserted that he would be "incapable" of loving a woman aged 50 or above.

Reader; he is 50-years-old himself.

Moix, who is well known in France as an award-winning writer, presenter and director, told Marie Claire that he found women of that age "too old".

"I prefer younger women's bodies, that's all. End of," he told the publication. "The body of a 25-year-old woman is extraordinary. The body of a woman of 50 is not extraordinary at all."

Moix's remarks have, understandably, sparked an angry backlash online.

French comedian, Marina Foïs, took to Twitter to joke that as she is about to turn 49 she only has "one year and 14 days" left to sleep with the author - who is known to court controversy with his comments.

"Can women under 50 be invisible to you as well please?" a Twitter user asked, while another said that women over 50 were most probably "breathing a sigh of relief" at his remarks.

Some women, who were over 50, posted images that showed off their body confidence in protest.

Journalist, Colombe Schneck, uploaded and then deleted a photo of her bottom, with the caption: "Voila, the buttocks of a woman aged 52…what an imbecile you are, you don't know what you're missing..."

While others shared images of female celebrities close to 50, including the likes of Halley Berry and Jennifer Aniston.

French comic, Anne Roumanoff, criticised his assertions on Europe 1 radio by pointing out that romance is not "just about the firmness of the buttocks" but rather about the connection between two people. "I hope that one day he knows this happiness."

Moix's interview drew further condemnation for statements he made regarding his preference for Asian women - "Koreans, Chinese and Japanese" - in particular.

"It's perhaps sad and reductive for the women I go out with but the Asian type is sufficiently rich, large and infinite for me not to be ashamed," he said.

In response to the outrage, the author told RTL radio that he was not "responsible" for his taste in women.

"I like who I like and I don't have to answer to the court of taste," he said, before joking that he probably wasn't the best catch either;

"50-year-old women do not see me either! They have something else to do than to get around a neurotic who writes and reads all day long. It's not easy to be with me."
