Miley Cyrus sparks angry backlash online after posting picture to Twitter

Miley Cyrus is known for courting controversy with unique aplomb. Whether she's grinding against Robin Thicke in that now-iconic VMAs performance, or sending her husband, Liam Hemsworth, a very NSFW message for Valentine's Day, one thing's for sure: the internet's going to have something to say about it.

Case in point: Cyrus took to Twitter today to post an image of herself luxuriating in a pool, decked out in a number of gold and bedazzled chains. The post was not well received, however, with many people accusing the star of cultural appropriation.

"Came thru drippin’ (drip drip)," Cyrus captioned the controversial snap.

The comments section was promptly filled with people calling the 26-year-old out for co-opting black culture. "Oh, hello. You rang? What can Blackness do for you today?" wrote one Twitter user, while another corroborated "Being a culture vulture so your music can sell."

"I’m annoyed, wear all the drip you want but don’t appropriate hair care items you don’t need [sic] might as well throw a durag on at this point," a third wrote after noticing a weave brush in the image.

This is not the first time that the erstwhile Disney star has been accused of being a culture vulture. In a 2017 interview with Billboard, Cyrus attempted to distance herself from the rap genre - something that she had previously embraced via twerking, using hip-hop hand gestures, and decking herself out in south-style jewellery.

Speaking about Kendrick Lamar's track, Humble, she asserted: "I love that because it’s not, ‘Come sit on my d*ck, suck on my c*ck. I can’t listen to that any more. That’s what pushed me out of the hip-hop scene a little. It was too much 'Lamborghini, got my Rolex, got a girl on my c*ck' – I am so not that."

C'mon, Miley.
