Penn Badgley calls out 'You' fans for romanticising his creepy character

Penn Badgley has a penchant for playing bookish men, who are a tad too obsessive when it comes to women. But while all his vying for Serena van der Woodsen was endearing in Gossip Girl, his turn as Joe Goldberg in Netflix's new original You is downright creepy: he's a stalker, and a murderer to boot.

Despite this fact, the women (and men) of social media have been taking to various platforms to speak about just how damn hot he is - of course -  but more worryingly, of their love of the character too.

Now, Penn - who is not a stalker or a murderer - has made it very clear about where he stands on people romanticising Joe.

Penn was more than prepared to shut down fans of the show on Twitter who seemed to have forgot that his character is literally a stalker and murderer.

In a series of tweets, he reminded people one by one that Joe is far from desirable as he replied to their tweets about the series.

One fan wrote: "Kidnap me pls," to which Penn simply replied: "No thx." Then another fan asked, "Said this already but @PennBadgley is breaking my heart once again as Joe. What is it about him?" The actor quickly responded: "A: He is a murderer."

There was some feedback that Penn approved of, however.

So, the next time you find a murderous, stalking sociopath attractive, remember that Penn Badgley does not approve.
