And so, another royal baby is born.

While we may have had to wait a little while to find out the name of the latest royal baby, (four whole days after Kate gave birth, no less!) we haven't had to wait too long for Kensington Palace to release some official portraits of the latest addition to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridges' happy family.

Revealing Prince Louis' name to the public, Kensington Palace tweeted;

"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son Louis Arthur Charles.

The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge."

Along with a heartwarming snap of the two royals with their baby.

It is believed that the couple did not know the gender of baby Louis before he was born; an outmoded royal precedent that dictated male heirs would be given precedence over their female counterparts was altered in the 2013 Succession to the Crown act.

The official images of Prince Louis, released by Kensington Palace are predictably adorable; the first in particular that shows Prince Charlotte giving her baby brother a kiss on the forehead.

As Kensington Palace wrote on Instagram;

"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to share two photographs of Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, taken by The Duchess at Kensington Palace.‬

"This image was taken on May 2, on Princess Charlotte’s third birthday.‬ ‪The Duke and Duchess would like to thank members of the public for their kind messages following the birth of Prince Louis, and for Princess Charlotte’s third birthday.‬"

Kensington Palace had previously been keeping the public up to date with the birth on Instagram, as evidenced here;

"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their son have traveled home to Kensington Palace today.

"Their Royal Highnesses would like to thank all staff at the hospital for the care and treatment they have received."

Prince Louis was born in the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital in London. A luxurious hospital wing, another woman who has given birth there described her experience to Hello magazine glowingly; “a very large room we could have all of our relatives there the next day we could have sat six people comfortably” she said, before likening her room to a hotel suite.

The next big event for avid fans of the royal family will be Prince Harry's marriage to 'Suits' star Meghan Markle on May 19th. The actress is perhaps best known for her role of Rachel Zane in the fast-paced US legal drama, though will now step away from the series as she takes on the responsibilities of being associated with the royal family.
