This 'Game of Thrones' theory explains why Varys took off his rings and it's bad news for Daenerys

In a matter of days, we will find out once and for all which of the remaining Game of Thrones characters will sit on the coveted Iron Throne.

Now, before the penultimate episode, which aired last Sunday, it seemed perfectly reasonable that Daenerys Targaryen would be the one to score that honour.

However, if Season eight, Episode episode 5, The Bells, told us anything, it's that there are going to be a hell of a lot of people coming for Dany in the last episode.

The episode saw the newly Mad Queen completely lose it, murdering any innocent person who stood in her path to taking over King's Landing, and ultimately ending the lives of Varys, Jaime, and Cersei, and many others.

Determined not to give up her status as Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, she turned into the tyrant that perhaps she was always destined to be.

So, fans are now speculating as to who will put an end to the Mad Queen's reign. One fan theory that has recently emerged centres around the now-dead Varys and the rings he removed before being executed for committing treason.

Viewers are left wondering if the moment had any special significance - why did he feel the need to remove the rings for his execution?

Daenerys turns into the Mad Queen:

When Varys took off his jewelled ring, in particular, he held on to it long enough to rouse our suspicions.

Could it be that the rings had been poisoned and that he was removing them so that they could still be used to take Daenerys down after his execution?

Because that's totally been done before on the show. In fact, that was exactly how Joffrey was killed - by poisoned jewellery. Let me just refresh your memory: Olenna killed Joffrey at the Purple Wedding using a poisoned stone from Sansa's necklace.
