Jaw surgeon shares remarkable transformation in patient just 20 days after surgery to reduce chin

An orthodontic surgeon has gone viral after revealing the dramatic transformation of a patient just 20 days after undergoing a series of corrective jaw procedures.
Dr. Narmin Gurbanova, an Azerbaijani surgeon who specializes in orthognathic (jaw) surgery, shared before-and-after images of the patient on Instagram, showcasing the dramatic changes to the woman’s facial profile following image-changing jaw treatment.
Surgeon posts astonishing transformation
Alongside the images, Dr. Gurbanova explained that the patient first underwent orthodontic treatment before having several surgical procedures.
"Our patient was prepared for surgery through orthodontic treatment, followed by the successful performance of BSSO, Le Fort I osteotomy, and genioplasty," she wrote.
She added that the results were already becoming apparent less than three weeks after the operation.
“The transformation achieved is already clearly evident just 20 days after the surgery. Noticeable improvements are observed in the facial profile, dental occlusion, and smile aesthetics."
Dr. Gurbanova also praised the collaborative effort behind the outcome, writing: “This result is the fruit of strong teamwork, precise planning, and patient cooperation."
BSSO, or bilateral sagittal split osteotomy, is a procedure used to reposition the lower jaw, while a Le Fort I osteotomy involves moving the upper jaw. Genioplasty is surgery performed to reshape or reposition the chin.
Dr. Gurbanova has performed hundreds of orthognathic procedures throughout her career and is among a growing number of specialists working in the rapidly expanding facial surgery sector, which has become a multi-billion-dollar global industry.
The dramatic before-and-after images quickly spread across social media, where users shared mixed reactions to the transformation.

A third commented: "This is what those surgeries are made for. Not for celebs to make cosmetic adjustments that they'll never be happy with."
While many people applauded the surgical result, others criticized some of the comments directed at the patient's appearance, arguing that reconstructive and orthognathic procedures should focus on improving function and quality of life as well as esthetics.
