Kim Kardashian reveals the real reason why Kanye missed the Met Gala

It's not a great time to be Kanye West right now.

The musician and record producer has always had something of a rocky history when it comes to maintaining a good public image, but the last few weeks have seen him take an unprecedented nosedive in popularity.

It all started with his tweets about Donald Trump, which caused a stir amongst his fans when many of them accused him of being "anti-black". Then, he descended into a spiral of self-congratulatory tweets and defensive statements (some of which were about slavery???); and at one point an interaction between him and his wife, Kim Kardashian, seemed to imply that she was not entirely on board with everything he was putting on social media.

However, she did come to his defense the following day, saying:

"To the media trying to demonize my husband let me just say this... your commentary on Kanye being erratic & his tweets being disturbing is actually scary. So quick to label him as having mental health issues for just being himself when he has always been expressive is not fair.

"Yesterday it was announced that Kanye had parted ways with some business people and media outlets made this about Kanye’s mental health. Rather than just a simple business decision. So I’m glad he tweeted about the state of his company and all of the exciting things happening.

"He’s a free thinker, is that not allowed in America? Because some of his ideas differ from yours you have to throw in the mental health card? That’s just not fair. He’s actually out of the sunken place when he’s being himself which is very expressive."

But, following his absence from the Met Gala this weekend, people wondered whether the couple weren't actually as tight as they appeared to be on the Twittersphere.

Kim was flying solo at the star-studded event, with Ye being nowhere in sight.

Once again, though, the reality star came to her husband's defense, and explained on Twitter that he couldn't make it because he was busy working. "Love you babe wish you were here with meeeeee but you’re only finishing up 5 albums," she wrote.

But not everyone was buying that excuse. Some folks thought it was just a coverup for Kanye avoiding his fans, while others believed that maybe Kim was slyly trying to promote her husband's upcoming albums.

Let's be real here, it does seem more likely that Kanye is keeping a low profile for a while after recent fiascos - but if he and Kim want to go with the whole "caught up at the office" storyline, then so be it.

Ultimately, it was probably for the best that he didn't show up. Not only would his presence have no doubt caused more outrage amongst his fans (and pretty much anyone with a twitter account), but his undeniable god complex might have made it difficult for him to get along with everyone else who was dressed for the super religious theme of the evening.

On the other hand, it would have been interesting to see what sort of costume he'd show up in. Yeezus would have stolen the show.
