Grammy award-winning songstress, Carrie Underwood, has captured the public attention for something other than her musical talents of late. The 34-year-old, who has been recognised by Rolling Stone as being "the female vocalist of her generation of any genre," took a nasty fall last November which left her hospitalised with a broken wrist, among other injuries.

After stumbling on the steps outside her home, the singer ended up having surgery on her wrist, and took to Twitter to jest that she would "be setting off airport metal detectors from now on". A few months later, she posted an update to Instagram, showing an x-ray scan of the metal plate and screws in her wrist. "Last check up on the old wrist this morning," she wrote. "Thanks, Dr. Wurth and my [physical therapy] angel, Renee, a.k.a "Bulldog" for fixing me up! I'm good to go!"

However, fans were more concerned about Carrie's face. Back in January, the country singer warned that she's "not quite looking the same" since she injured her face in the same tumble and required 40 to 50 stitches. "I am determined to make 2018 amazing and I want to share things with you along the way," she asserted. "And when I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different."

Now, it's clear that the songstress is back in action. Carrie performed her new single, Cry Pretty, during the Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday. It's her first appearance since the 2017 Country Music Awards, as well as the first time that fans have seen her face post-accident. And of course, she looked as amazing as ever.

The mother-of-one received a standing ovation for her performance, and through tears she later said "Thank you for having me. I’m still kind of like…shaking right now. Thank you."

Carrie described what happened to her as a "freak random accident". And she has repeatedly expressed gratitude that her fall wasn't more serious. Speaking to People in the latter half of last year, she said "I honestly don't know how things are going to end up but I do know this: I am grateful." The country singer and songwriter added, "I am grateful that it wasn't much, much worse. And I am grateful for the people in my life that have been there every step of the way."

The American Idol winner has kept her face largely concealed in recent months. The first photo of her entire face was posted on the 6th of April, albeit from a distance.

Well, there you have it. While Carrie's recovery may have been long and arduous, it's evident that she's back and better than ever. I mean, I don't know about you, but I think she looked absolutely fabulous on Sunday night.
